As much transparency as possible – for us, that applies to measuring emissions at the level of shipments, as well. That is why we work with real numbers (primary data) and the sustainability management platform from Waves.
- Primary data makes it possible to determine real emissions much more precisely, providing optimal transparency and comparability.
- Each of our partners in Germany and throughout Europe can access the results on the OSL shipments they transport. At no cost to them, since we cover the expense of collecting data and calculating the volume of emissions.
- For routes outside our general cargo network, OSL partners can also have data gathered and evaluated through Waves for a fee.
- This enables all OSL partners to obtain the data on CO2 emissions for all of their shipments and, for instance, use it in preparing their sustainability reports in accord with the GHG protocol standards.
Precise monitoring of greenhouse gases (GHG) by shipment is of course not an end in itself. We first started gathering data when we implemented ISO 14001 for environmental management. Fuel consumption was our main benchmark at that time. Thanks to the newer, more precise methods, we can now provide our domestic and international partners significantly better tools to use in reducing their emissions.
More information on this topic and the new ISO 14083 standard is available in a current DVZ article. The “Deutsche Verkehrszeitung” (DVZ) is a leading German trade journal for logistics.
