With its Cologne branch, Emons Spedition is strengthening Online Systemlogistik’s (OSL) general cargo network in the Cologne/Bonn region as a system partner; the collaboration begins on 1 September. Emons is already a member of the OSL network through its branches in Erfurt and Urmitz near Koblenz.
The addition of a further partner will enable the network to be further optimised in this high-volume region. Specifically, the standard transit time there will be halved, transforming a 48-hour area into a 24-hour area.
Area optimisation for shorter distances and transit times
This offers benefits for customers, the environment and the OSL partners: thanks to the shorter distances, shipments are not only delivered more quickly, but the transports also generate fewer CO₂emissions, whilst the other OSL partners benefit from more favourable onward transport rates.
To date, two partners from the Rhineland metropolitan region have been operating in the Cologne/Bonn area: on the left bank of the Rhine, the freight forwarding company Paul Langen from Mönchengladbach; on the right bank, Engemann u. Co from Hilden. As part of the area optimisation, Engemann and the OSL partner Hintzen Logistik from Eschweiler – which still serves a small area on the left bank of the Rhine – are handing over postcode areas. From September, Emons Spedition will take over the region south of Cologne on both sides of the Rhine. This will halve, for example, the last-mile distance to Bonn, which was previously served from Hilden and will now be served from Cologne.
“Distributing shipments from metropolitan regions across several partners is part of our strategy. This enables us to strengthen coverage in certain areas and further optimise the distribution,” says Verena Käuper, a member of the management board at Online Systemlogistik. “We are delighted to have secured Emons as a partner with a third location.”

Founded in 1928 with a single truck, Emons Spedition GmbH & Co. KG can look back on a history spanning almost a century. The first freight forwarding facility was opened in Cologne in 1948, followed by branches in Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Munich and Freiburg, amongst others. In the 1990s, branches were added in the eastern federal states.
At the Cologne site, 118 Emons employees currently process around 2,500 shipments every day. They have 5,200 square metres of handling space and 100 vehicles at their disposal. Emons offers logistics services at over 120 locations worldwide. The current focus is on international expansion.
